LYNCHBURG, VA - Hampden-Sydney's Ryan Daniel tossed a 137 pitch,
complete game effort, hurling Hampden-Sydney past Randolph-Macon
10-4 in the second day of the 2009 ODAC Baseball Tournament.
H-SC will advance to Saturday night's 7:00 p.m. game against an
opponent to be determined. Randolph-Macon will take on Washington

Daniel allowed just four runs on five hits and struck out nine
to improve his record to 4-2 on the season. James Bierlein took the
loss after going 4.2 innings, allowing four runs and punching out
five.
R-MC jumped out to an early lead when in the second inning, Mike
Wallace opened the frame with a walk and two batters late came home
on a homerun by Jeff Beck to make the score 2-0 in favor of the
Jackets.
Things stayed that way until the top of the fourth inning when
H-SC struck for its first run of the contest after Chris Martin was
hit by a pitch and came around to score on an RBI double off the
bat of Nick Price, making the score 2-1.
The Tigers pushed their lead to 4-1 in the fifth, putting
together three runs on three hits, including a two run homer by
Matt Brown.
The Yellow Jackets cut its deficit in half at 4-3 in the home
half of the sixth inning on a two out RBI single by Wallace that
plated Greg Meleski.
In the Tigers' eighth, Herbie Williams tripled to lead off. R-MC
reliever Josh Ellwood retired back-to-back batters before Brown
singled up the middle to bring Williams home, putting the Tigers up
5-3. Hampden-Sydney then got an RBI hit from Luke Swiney and
capitalized on a miscue in field later in the inning by R-MC to go
up 7-3.
H-SC tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the ninth to
secure the victory.
