(Box
Score)
ASHLAND, Va. - Randolph-Macon's Rich Wilkens registered a hat trick
as the Yellow Jackets topped visiting Guilford 9-4 in Old Dominion
Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse action Wednesday
afternoon in Ashland.
Wilkens scored the first two goals of the game, both of which
were unassisted, to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead with 4:36
remaining in the first quarter. Brian Rowe netted a goal fifty
seconds later, depositing a pass from Chris Lamb in transition, to
add to the early lead. Guilford's Daniel Dowd put the Quakers on
the board before the quarter's end, but Kevin Patton responded with
a goal of his own to regain the three-goal R-MC advantage. Guilford
(3-9 / 1-4 ODAC) tallied a man-up goal with 4:38 remaining in the
half to make the score 4-2 at halftime.
Both teams exchanged man-up goals in the first six minutes of
the second half before Patrick Egan netted an unassisted goal with
3:25 remaining in the third quarter. The Yellow Jackets carried
that momentum into the final stanza as Egan, Wilkens, and Tyler
Midwinter registered goals to widen the R-MC lead to 9-3. Guilford
added a goal with 4:56 remaining in regulation and earned a man-up
opportunity 11 seconds later, but the Yellow Jacket defense held
the Quakers scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
Randolph-Macon (6-6 / 1-4 ODAC) faces Virginia Wesleyan
next Wednesday, April 22, in both teams' final game of the regular
season.
