Shenandoah Tops R-MC Baseball 7-3

WINCHESTER, VA - Seven different Hornets tallied two hits on the
day as Shenandoah topped Randolph-Macon 7-3 in baseball action on
Friday.
The Jackets (7-13) struck first with three runs in their initial
at-bat, when Kevin Davis and Greg Meleski singled with one out then
Mike Wallace singled to plate Davis. With two out and the bases
loaded, Jeff Beck doubled to score Davis and Meleski and put R-MC
up 3-0.
After leaving six runners in scoring position through the first
five innings, Shenandoah (20-4) got back into the game by scoring
three times in the sixth, getting four hits to start the inning to
tie the game and chase R-MC starter Matt Tiller from the contest
Shenandoah touched Jackets reliever Steve Carper (0-2) for two
runs on one hit and a Jacket error to start the seventh, and plated
a third run off R-MC reliever Charlie Hartt to go up 6-3. SU's Greg
Van Sickler closed the book on the day's scoring with an eighth
inning solo home run.
Matt Davis (1-1), who replaced Brian Goddard to start the seventh,
and recorded the final nine out for SU to pick up the win. Davis
struck out seven of the nine batters he faced, including the side
in the ninth. Carper took the loss out of the pen for R-MC.
Wallace led R-MC with two hits on the day for the Jackets.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts
Bridgewater College at 1:00 p.m. in an ODAC doubleheader in
Ashland.
