R-MC Can Not Recover from Slow Start as Goucher Defeats
Yellow Jackets 11-6
(Box
Score)
ASHLAND, Va. - It was a game of scoring runs on Wednesday,
as Goucher used three, three-goal rallies to defeat Randolph-Macon
11-6. Patrick Egan, Jake Leddy, and Tyler Midwinter tallied goals
for the Yellow Jackets, who drop to 3-1 in 2009. The Gophers
improve to 5-2.
Goucher sprinted out to a 3-0 lead by the end of the first
quarter. However, R-MC answered by scoring three of the next four
goals. Jake Leddy gave the Yellow Jackets a man-up tally
two-and-a-half minutes into the second stanza. After Goucher scored
a man-down goal, Tyler Midwinter received a pass from Billy Rowe
and sent a shot past the GC goalie for R-MC's second man-up tally
of the afternoon, both of which were assisted by Rowe. The Gophers
answered by ending the first half with three consecutive goals to
take a 7-3 lead at halftime.
After the Gophers converted a man-up opportunity to start the
third quarter, R-MC rattled off three consecutive goals to make the
score 8-6 with 14:17 remaining in regulation. Patrick Egan
orchestrated the comeback attempt, tallying two unassisted goals
and assisting Jake Leddy's goal in less than fifteen minutes of
play. Goucher sealed the win, however, by ending the game with
three consecutive goals in the last 8:15 of regulation.
R-MC's Adam Liberto registered two saves, while Jason Crawford
tallied seven. Penalties hampered R-MC's chances of a comeback, as
five Yellow Jackets were sent to the box in the fourth quarter
alone.
For Goucher, attackman Kyle Boncaro registered three goals and
three assists, while fellow attackman Rory Averett netted three
goals as well. Alex Boucher tallied a goal and an assist, and Brian
Hoge, Sam Fitzpatrick, Jake Fratella, and Adam Pietrocarlo scored
one goal apiece.
R-MC travels to the University of Mary Washington on Saturday to
take on the Eagles. Game time is set for 1:00.
