Carroll LaHaye Earns her 450th Career Coaching Victory as R-MC Defeats Emory & Henry 71-59
(Box Score)

Ashland, Va. - Randolph-Macon controlled the paint against Emory & Henry Saturday, earning a 71-59 victory over the Wasps. The win marked R-MC Head Coach Carroll LaHaye's 450th career victory as head coach of the Yellow Jackets.

R-MC possessed a slim 17-13 lead with 11:53 remaining in the first half. However, the Yellow Jackets scored the next seven points as Amanda Hiltunen hit a three-pointer, Katie Williams converted a pair of free-throws, and Molly Ariail netted a field goal to take a 24-13 lead with 10:19 remaining. R-MC entered halftime with a 39-27 lead.

The Wasps kept pace with the Yellow Jackets in the opening four minutes of the second half to trail 47-35 with 16 minutes remaining. R-MC registered the next six points as Jillian Asay, Taylor Wieczorek, and Maggie Roy each netted baskets in a 1:20 span to put the Yellow Jackets ahead 53-35.

R-MC earned its largest lead of the day with 3:50 remaining in regulation when Jillian Asay converted a three-point attempt after a pair of Ariail baskets, both of which were assisted by Renee Stein, to give R-MC a 70-51 lead.

The Yellow Jackets shot just 39.7% from the field, 17.6% from behind the arc, and 55.6% from the free throw line, but outrebounded the Wasps 52-34. R-MC earned 12 points from second-chance opportunities while holding E-HC to no points on just two second-chance opportunities.

By earning her 450th career victory, LaHaye surpasses Millikin's Lori Kerans as the fourteenth winningest active head coach in Division III women's basketball. Kerans' Big Blue lost to Elmhurst Saturday 68-67.

LaHaye also becomes the winningest head coach in Randolph-Macon history. She passes longtime baseball coach Hugh F. Stephens on the school's all-time list. Stephens also served terms as Professor of Physical Education as well as Athletic Director during his tenure in Ashland, which lasted from 1950-1982. "The Silver Fox" owned a 449-202 career record as head coach of the Yellow Jackets.

R-MC returns to action on Thursday in the Quarterfinal round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament. The Yellow Jackets will play at either 1:00 or 6:00. Opening matchups will be finalized Sunday when the tournament brackets are released. All ODAC Tournament games are held at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia.
