ASHLAND, VA - Randolph-Macon College freshman goalkeeper Ray
Wodarski made 23 saves, including 14 in the second half alone as he
led the Yellow Jackets to an 11-7 ODAC win over arch rival
Hampden-Sydney. The win secures R-MC's first berth into the ODAC
Tournament in school history.
R-MC (7-6) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Keith Baker and
Brendan Kerrigan. A Kyle Jett strike with one second on the first
quarter clock gave H-SC its first goal of the contest.
After H-SC's (7-7) Kenny Mathison opened the second quarter
scoring to tie the game at 2-2, R-MC got back-to-back goals from
Peter LaPaglia and Paul Johnsen to go up 4-2.
Jett struck again with 1:51 to go in the half to send the team
to intermission with Jackets leading 4-3.
R-MC outscored the Tigers 3-1 in the third quarter, getting two
goals from Billy Rowe and a strike from Tyler Watkins to go along
with seven saves from Wodarski to hold a 7-4 lead after three
quarters.
H-SC scored three of the first four goals of the fourth quarter,
cutting the Jackets advantage to 8-7 on a Doug Carpenter goal with
7:27 to go in the game.
The Yellow Jackets responded with three goals to end the game,
getting tallies from Rich Wilkens, Johnsen, Rowe and another seven
saves in the quarter from Wodarski to seal the win.
Randolph-Macon will travel to top-seeded Lynchburg College on
Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the ODAC semifinals.
