Virginia Wesleyan Sweeps R-MC Softball 5-0 & 6-4
(Game One
Box Score) / (Game Two Box
Score)
ASHLAND, VA - Virginia Wesleyan right-hander Brittany Brown
picked up a three hit shutout in game one and recorded a save in
game two to help the Marlins score an ODAC doubleheader sweep of
Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday afternoon in Ashland. VWC won
by the scores of 5-0 and 6-4.
In game one, Brown scattered three hits, struck out eight , did
not issue a walk, while going the distance to pick up her 15th win
of the season.
In game two, Paige Smith staked R-MC (21-12 / 4-9 ODAC) to a 1-0
lead in the first inning with a solo homerun off VWC starter Ally
Eates.
VWC (24-8 / 14-2 ODAC) took a 2-1 advantage in the third inning
putting together four hits, while taking advantage of an R-MC error
to score a pair of runs.
R-MC tied the score in the fourth inning when Shannon Long
singled home Meaghan Mauck to knot the score at 2-2.
The Marlins responded with four runs in their next at bat to go
up 6-2 to before Smith struck again with a two-run home run to cut
the VWC lead to 6-4.
That would be as close as the Jackets would get as Brown
surrendered just two hits in her three innings of work to preserve
the win for Eates.
R-MC will be back in action on Friday when it travels to Sweet
Briar College for a 2:00 p.m. ODAC doubleheader.
