Pitching Gems Help R-MC to a Softball Doubleheader Sweep of
Meredith
( Game One
Box Score ) / ( Game Two
Box Score )
ASHLAND, VA - The Randolph-Macon College softball team got a
pair of pitching gems on Thursday afternoon from Courtney Brooks
and Katie Raulerson as the Yellow Jackets swept a doubleheader from
visiting Meredith College 4-0 and 10-0.
R-MC, which has now won six games in a row, got a complete game,
five hit shutout from Brooks in game one. Brooks, who is now 3-1 on
the season in the circle, stuck out five in the win as well.
The game was scoreless for the first four and a half innings
until the Jackets broke through for three runs in the bottom of the
fifth inning when Morgan Greene led off with a single and scored
when Paige Smith delivered a one out double to put R-MC on top 1-0.
Smith would come around to score when Brooke Snyder's single was
misplayed in the outfield. R-MC would tack on a third run when
Ashley Crouch drove in Snyder with a ground out.
Casey Mauck added an insurance run in the sixth inning when she
connected for her second home run of the season, making the score
4-0 in favor the Yellow Jackets.
In game two, Raulerson allowed just two hits in her four innings
of work and stuck out six before giving way to Christi Wise who
tossed the final inning for R-MC.
The Jackets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning
when Snyder doubled home Smith with two outs. Then two batters
later, Crouch singled home Snyder.
R-MC then scored three runs in the second and five runs in the
fourth to put the game away and go onto the victory. The Yellow
Jackets pounded out 11 hits on the day and took advantage of one
Meredith error and nine wild pitches.
Randolph-Macon will return to action on Sunday when it travels
to Winchester, Virginia for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader
against Shenandoah University.
