Roanoke Upends Randolph-Macon Softball 6-1 &
12-9
(Game One
Box Score) / (Game Two
Box Score)
ASHLAND, VA - The Randolph-Macon College softball team had is 16
game winning streak snapped by Roanoke College which swept a
doubleheader from the Yellow Jackets Sunday afternoon in Ashland.
RC took game one 6-1 and earned a 12-9 victory in the second game
of the day.
In game one, RC (21-6 / 6-2 ODAC) jumped on the board first with
a run in the first inning. R-MC got the run right back in the
bottom of the first when Morgan Greene opened the frame with a
single, moved to second on sacrifice bunt by Carrie Barchick and
scored on a double by Brooke Snyder.
RC took advantage of a two out R-MC miscue in field that turned
a Clarrisa Norwich single into a double and Norwich scored what
proved to be the winning run when Jaci Clark followed with an RBI
single.
In game two, the Maroons used a 10-run third inning to break
open a tied game and take a 12-2 lead. The Jackets clawed their way
back and cut the RC lead to 12-9 on a Meaghan Mauck two-run homerun
in the bottom half of the seventh. That would be as close as R-MC
would get as the Roanoke bullpen preserved the win for starter
Gretchen Wolfe who picked up both victories in the circle for
Roanoke.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Tuesday at home when it
hosts ODAC rival Virginia Wesleyan in a doubleheader starting at
3:00 p.m.
