FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Methodist University's Seth Kivett went
4-for-4 with a homerun and six RBIs as the Monarchs opened up their
2008 baseball campaign with a 12-2 victory over Randolph-Macon
College Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville, N.C.
R-MC (0-2) got on the board in the first inning when Mike
Wallace led off with a walk and stole second before Kevin Davis
drew a walk of his own. After Greg Meleski moved the runners over
with a ground out, Charlie Hartt loaded the bases when he was hit
by MU starter Chris Toth. Toth then walked a run in when he issued
a free pass to the next batter Jeff Beck.
Toth was replaced by Fred Geisinger and he promptly got the
Monarchs out of further trouble when he forced an inning
ending double play off the bat of Adam Carpenter
The Jackets doubled their lead when JC Conway led off the second
inning with a double and came home on a one out single by Jimmy
Piscopo. That would be the last run of the day for R-MC as
Geisinger settled down and ended up tossing 5.2 innings of relief,
allowing five hits, just one run and striking out five to pick up
the win.
Kivett tied the game in the third inning with a one out, two run
homerun and Billy Quinn added a two out RBI single that same
inning to give MU all the runs they would need on the day. The
Monarchs padded their lead with a five run sixth inning and four
run seventh inning.
Randolph-Macon will return to action on Sunday when it will
close out its series with Methodist at 2:00 p.m.
