FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Methodist University swept a two games series
from Randolph-Macon College with a 9-6 victory Sunday afternoon in
Fayetteville, N.C.
R-MC (0-3) plated a pair of runs in the first inning when Mike
Wallace led off with a single and moved to third on an Adam
Carpenter double. Greg Meleski followed with a ground out to score
Wallace, while Carpenter came home when a ball off the bat of Jeff
Beck was misplayed in the outfield by MU.
The Monarchs (2-0) came back in the second inning, scoring three
runs including a two-run homerun from Billy Quinn.
The Jackets tied the game in the third inning when Charlie Hartt
singled home Carpenter with one out. R-MC then took the lead an
inning later when a Wallace sacrifice fly scored Jay Lichter to
make the score 4-3.
MU retook the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth and three
runs in the fifth inning, making the score 8-4. R-MC would close
the gap to 8-6 in the eighth inning when JC Conway scored on a
double play ground out and Jimmy Piscopo connected for a solo
homerun, but that would be as close as the Jackets could get as
Seth Kivett provided an insurance run for the Monarchs in the
bottom half of the eighth with a solo homerun of his own.
Elliott Bisplinghoff (1-0) started for MU and picked up
the win after going six innings and allowing four runs on six hits.
Hartt (0-1) took the loss on the mound for R-MC after tossing four
innings and surrendering five runs.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday when they
will host St. Mary's of Maryland in a doubleheader starting at
12:00 p.m.
