How it Happened
  • The Eagles tallied the game's first shot on goal 5:15 into the first and earned a penalty corner as a result. Once Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) made the stop, Randolph-Macon flipped the field and took an early 1-0 lead on a shot from Samantha Major (Newport News, Va./Menchville). Mary Washington responded immediately with a goal, as it was able to knot the contest 1-1 on a penalty shot just 46 seconds later. Janne Roelink (Den Helder, Netherlands/Norfolk Collegiate) tried to get her team back on track but her shot sailed wide. While the score was 1-1 after one, Kylee Gorham (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) also had a shot that was blocked on a penalty corner feed from Roelink within the final minute of frame one.
  • The second quarter began with a quick shot from Olivia Greene (Amissville, Va./Culpeper County) 36 seconds in. The Eagles put a shot on goal during their next possession but Ambrogi-Torres was there for the stop. Four minutes later, the Yellow Jackets' keeper came through with another stop, providing some momentum for RMC. The team capitalized on the save and Gorham netted her squad's second goal of the game, as she beat the Eagles' goalkeeper on the left side. Once the goal occurred 6:40 into the second, UMW again had the answer, as it had a chip deflection with 5:11 left in the first half. In the final four minutes, the Lemon and Black posted one more shot while the Eagles tallied two en route to a 2-2 score at the break.
  • While the home team ripped three shots in the first three minutes of the third, two were not on target and the third was stopped on a defensive save from Hailey Swartzbaugh (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson). At the 5:28 mark, Gorham and Peyton Sutton (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) both posted shots and they resulted in a save and defensive save, respectively. RMC had a chance on a penalty shot following the defensive save but the UMW goalie was able to come up with the stop. Mary Washington worked for two more corners to close out the third and managed to get a shot on goal, only for Ambrogi-Torres to come up with the save.
  • Randolph-Macon presented the momentum in the fourth, as the Yellow Jackets used two shots from Roelink and one from Annie Pruitt (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) to keep the Eagles on defense. The home team countered with a shot and went on to post another shot halfway through the third. RMC was able to block the attempt and get back into the offensive zone. Breea Dresler (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) sent a shot wide before her corner insertion led to a shot from Penelope Trageser (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill). UMW used a defensive save to escape from the pressure, sending the game to overtime at 2-2.
  • Natalie Moul (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) had her shot blocked 3:13 into the overtime period as the first shot by either squad. On the Eagles; ensuing possession, they scored the final goal in the contest, turning in a 3-2 final score.
Inside the Numbers
  • The Yellow Jackets led 11-to-10 in shots on goal while tying 16-to-16 in total shots.
  • The Eagles led five-to-two in corners but both teams tallied 15 shots faced.
  • Gorham and Roelink both turned team-highs with three shots and two on goal.
  • Major's goal marked her first of the season, as she converted on her only shot on goal.

  • The Lemon and Black had 11 different players post shots, with nine registering attempts on target.
