How it Happened
- 53 seconds into the first frame, Breea Dresler (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) put a shot on goal, which led to a penalty corner. RMC was unable to convert and Lynchburg flipped the field to earn two penalty corners two minutes later, where it would post three shots with two being blocked and one sailing wide. Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) was then forced to make her first two saves, after the Hornets earned a penalty corner. The visitors then converted on its following penalty corner with 7:23 left in the first half, creating a 1-0 edge. Kylee Gorham (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) responded and came down field to put a shot on goal, which the LYN keeper cleared. Natalie Moul (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) sent a shot wide that resulted in a penalty corner at the five-minute mark and Neely Winefordner (Glen Allen, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) pushed a shot wide. With 1:41 left in the first, Janne Roelink (Den Helder, Netherlands/Norfolk Collegiate) inserted a pass to Gorham, who slotted the equalizer to knot the contest 1-1 after one.
- The two programs traded fouls for the first eight minutes of play until Dresler ripped a shot on goal but the Hornet goalkeeper made the save from the turf. The Hornets earned the quarter's first penalty corner with 6:10 remaining in the frame, where Ambrogi-Torres would make an incredible foot save. She went on to make two more acrobatic saves off deflections, keeping the contest level after two additional penalty corner chances. The Yellow Jacket keeper went on to make a diving stop and denied a five-hole attempt with 1:40 left, with the attempts coming off penalty corners, sending the game into the half at 1-1.
- The Hornets earned three quick penalty corners in the third, however, Ambrogi-Torres made the save on the only shot on goal. Once another shot was sent wide, the visitors earned another chance and put two attempts on net, with the RMC keeper there for both saves. The Yellow Jackets then found a fast break on offense and it was Dresler who sent a shot just wide halfway through the period. Despite not scoring, her team earned a penalty corner where Roelink and McKayla Clark (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) both put shots on-goal but Schoones was there for the pair of saves. With five minutes left, the Hornets put another shot on net on a corner chance and Ambrogi-Torres went horizontal for the stop, guiding her team to the fourth.
- A shot on-goal from Dresler gave her team a penalty corner opportunity under two minutes into the fourth. The Hornets defended and on the ensuing possession, scored the go-ahead goal 3:11 into the frame. 36 second later, Sofia Boon scored her second goal of the contest, increasing the LYN lead to 3-1. RMC used two late shots on goal to earn itself a penalty stroke but Moul put it just wide with 1:41 left in the contest, ending the match down 1-3.
