ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon College Athletics has joined Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, establishing a new chapter that will recognize Yellow Jacket student-athletes for excellence in both academics and athletics.

Chi Alpha Sigma is the first and only nonprofit national honor society dedicated to recognizing four-year collegiate student-athletes who excel in the classroom and in athletic competition. Founded in 1996, the organization provides student-athletes an opportunity to be recognized for their combined academic and athletic accomplishments.

To be eligible for induction into Chi Alpha Sigma, student-athletes must participate in a varsity intercollegiate sport, achieve junior academic standing or higher following their fourth full-time semester and maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

"Being a student-athlete is about far more than what happens on the field or in the classroom—it's about the person you become along the way," said Jeff Burns, Director of Athletics. "We are proud to establish Chi Alpha Sigma at Randolph-Macon because it recognizes the very best of our student-athletes: their academic achievement, their athletic commitment, their leadership and, most importantly, their character. These are accomplishments that deserve to be celebrated, and they are qualities that will serve our students long after their playing days are over."

The addition of Randolph-Macon continues the growth of Chi Alpha Sigma throughout Virginia and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Fellow ODAC institutions with chapters include Bridgewater, Batten, Randolph, Hollins, Sweet Briar and Shenandoah.

Randolph-Macon's membership further highlights the College's commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy and the development of well-rounded student-athletes. The honor society provides another opportunity to celebrate Yellow Jackets who demonstrate a high level of achievement in their academic pursuits while competing at the collegiate level.

Chi Alpha Sigma has more than 500 active chapters nationwide and is certified by the Association of College Honor Societies. The organization inducted more than 17,000 student-athletes during the 2024-25 academic year.

Randolph-Macon will recognize its inaugural Chi Alpha Sigma induction class during the 2026-27 academic year.
