ASHLAND, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announces three former Randolph-Macon standouts in the second class of the ODAC Hall of Fame.
Kurt Axe '96, Jenn Kohler Del Rossi '96 and Remon Smith '88 represent the Yellow Jackets in the ODAC Hall of Fame.
Kurt Axe was a standout member of the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team from 1992-96, finishing his career with 1,521 points, 312 assists and 150 steals while averaging 14.9 points per game. He still holds the program record with 257 career 3-pointers, while his 85.0% free-throw percentage ranks third in school history. Axe was named the ODAC Freshman of the Year in 1993 and later earned First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-Region and ODAC Player of the Year honors while helping lead the Yellow Jackets back to the NCAA Tournament as a senior. He also received the George P. Compton Award as Randolph-Macon's top male student-athlete. Following his passing in a car accident after his senior season, the ODAC renamed its men's basketball Player of the Year award in his honor.
Jenn Kohler Del Rossi '96 was one of the most decorated student-athletes in Randolph-Macon history, excelling in both women's soccer and women's basketball from 1992-96. She helped lead the women's soccer program to four consecutive ODAC championships, compiling a 66-5-6 overall record and a perfect 32-0 mark in conference play while earning two All-America honors, two NCAA Tournament appearances and three First Team All-ODAC selections. She still holds program records with 196 career points and 58 assists. On the basketball court, Del Rossi finished her career with 1,611 points and 402 assists, both program records at the time of her graduation. She was the ODAC Rookie of the Year in 1993, a three-time First Team All-ODAC selection and the 1996 ODAC Player of the Year and All-American, helping lead the Yellow Jackets to an ODAC championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance. She also received the Susan Locke deNagy Award as Randolph-Macon's top female student-athlete before earning an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and studying physical therapy at Shenandoah University.
Remon Smith was one of the greatest football players in Randolph-Macon history, starring for the Yellow Jackets from 1984-87. He finished his career with 4,276 rushing yards, the highest total in Virginia history at the time and the third-highest mark in Division III history. Smith held the program's rushing record for 33 years while also setting school records with 745 carries, 42 touchdowns and 252 points. A three-time 1,000-yard rusher, he earned All-America honorable mention and Academic All-District honors in 1987, along with multiple All-ODAC and All-State selections. Smith helped lead Randolph-Macon to a 27-13-1 record, an NCAA Playoff appearance and a 3-1 record against Hampden-Sydney. A team captain and Dean's List student, he received the George P. Compton Award in 1988 as the college's top senior male student-athlete. Following his playing career, he spent 28 years as a track and field coach and was named MileSplit National Coach of the Year in 2023.
