ASHLAND, Va. – The 27th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team will travel to Albany, New York, for the start of the 2026 NCAA Tournament in a regional hosted by Russell Sage College.
RMC will be the No. 2 seed and will play third-seeded Trinity College (CT) to open the tournament on Friday, May 15. The top seed Russell Sage Gators will host fourth-seeded Penn State Harrisburg on the opening day of the double-elimination regional.
RMC has never played Russell Sage or Trinity and has a 2-1 series record against Penn State Harrisburg. The first matchup came in 2020 as RMC won 10-6 in Ashland. The two teams met in the 2024 season and it was the Yellow Jackets who took a 7-3 victory in Middletown, Pa.
The Yellow Jackets are 26-14, posting their fifth consecutive 25-win season. RMC went 13-7 in ODAC play and claimed the third spot in the conference standings.
This will be RMC's 10th trip to the NCAA Tournament and ninth under Head Coach
Ray Hedrick. This is the first time the Yellow Jackets have reached the NCAA Championship in four consecutive seasons, making the class of 2026 the first in program history to reach the NCAA Tournament in each of their four seasons.
In 1977, head coach Hugh Stephens and the Yellow Jackets received an at-large bid to the Division II Tournament and traveled to Valdosta, Ga.
RMC earned automatic bids to the Division III Tournament in 2008 (Danville, Va.), 2011 (Lakewood, N.J.), 2013 (Millington, Tenn.) and 2016 (Washington, Pa.), reaching the regional finals in 2016.
In 2018, the Yellow Jackets received an at-large bid and won their first regional title in Holly Springs, N.C. RMC earned its first trip to the Division III College World Series. The Yellow Jackets also garnered at-large bids in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Two seasons ago, RMC used an at-large bid to win the Harrisburg Regional. The Yellow Jackets hosted Adrian in the Ashland Super Regional and won two of three games to advance to the Division III College World Series for the second time. Last season, RMC hosted an NCAA Regional for the first time in program history.
RMC is one of four teams from the ODAC to participate in the NCAA Tournament. Shenandoah earned the league's automatic bid, while both Lynchburg and Bridgewater also received at-large bids. Furthermore, both Lynchburg and Shenandoah were selected to host in this year's tournament.
The Yellow Jackets hold an 8-8 record against teams in the NCAA Tournament. RMC is 2-0 against Salisbury, Mary Washington and Messiah. The Yellow Jackets were 1-1 against Christopher Newport and also got a win against Shenandoah, finishing 1-2. The team rounded out its play with three contests against Lynchburg and two against Bridgewater.
