VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Men's Lax traveled to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to take on the Marlins on Wednesday night. The contest started as a back-and-forth offensive affair but a strong second half propelled the Yellow Jackets to a 19-7 win.

How it Happened
- The Yellow Jackets opened up the scoring at the 13:47 mark when Andrew Bergesen (Olney, Md./Sherwood) fed Logan Sinsebox (Monkton, Md./Hereford). Virginia Wesleyan found an answer less than one minute later to make the score 1-1. At the 9:23 mark, the Marlins took the lead but the Yellow Jackets responded on the faceoff when Carson Mingo (Cambridge, Md./Gilman) won the faceoff and connected with Mike Allen (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown). The rest of the quarter, each team went back and forth trading goals for a 4-4 score line heading into the second quarter.
- RMC opened the second frame on a goal from Sinsebox, assisted by Hunter Drake (Richmond, Va./Deep Run), to take a 5-4 lead. At the 9:41 mark, VWU netted its fifth goal of the game, leveling the score once again. 20 seconds later, Allen added his second of the game with Sinsebox earning the assist. This sparked the Lemon and Black offense as they recorded the next six goals over the next five minutes. Bergesen accounted for three, Owen King (Fallston, Md./Fallston), Will Robertson (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) and Nick Harrington (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) each found the back of the net for the other three. The offensive explosion gave RMC a 12-5 lead heading into the break.
- Coming out of the break, the Marlins were the team to strike first, 30 seconds into the second half, cutting the Yellow Jackets' lead to six goals. RMC responded by scoring two goals of their own, one at the 12:13 mark by Matt Carter (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) and another at 10:47 by Grant Sobel (Mechanicsville, va/Christchurch). At the 8:58 mark, Carter cashed in on a feed from JJ Phillips (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) during a man-up opportunity to extend the lead to 15-6. Five minutes later, the Yellow Jackets added another goal from Sobel, assisted by Beaux Wojciechowski (Colorado Springs, Colo./Vista Ridge), to close out the quarter with a 10-goal lead.
- RMC continued its offensive momentum two minutes into the quarter on an unassisted goal from Peyton Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, Calif./Bishop Garcia Diego). Three minutes later, the Lemon and Black added their 18th goal on a shot from Jacob MacMillan (Fallston, Md./Fallston) to extend their lead to 12. Four minutes later, Carlton Benton got the Marlins back on the board, cutting the score to 18-7. With 2:29 on the clock, RMC found the back of the net one final time to close out the game with a 19-7 victory over VWU.
Inside the Numbers
- Bergesen led the Yellow Jackets' offense with six total points on three goals and three assists. He also picked up three ground balls.
- Sinsebox tallied five points on three goals and two assists. Sobel was one point behind him with four goals and one assist.
- Carter and Allen each tallied two goals in the contest.
- The Yellow Jackets outshot the Marlins 45-29 overall and 28-to-22 in shots on goal.
- In transition, RMC went 25-28 (.892) and VWU went 19-27 (.703) during the game.
- Allen and Charlie Violette (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) both caused three turnovers. Allen also picked up three ground balls while Violette grabbed two.
- Brodie Kent (Coquitlam, Canada/Centennial) scooped up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
- At the faceoff x, Robertson went 10-14 (.714), leading the Yellow Jackets. He also tallied five ground balls and a goal in tonight's game.
- RMC held the advantage when it came to ground balls, picking up 39 total while VWU recorded 27.
- Jack Isaacs (Coquitlam, Canada/Centennial) played 57:31, making 13 saves and only allowing seven goals in the contest.
