How It Happened:
- The Yellow Jackets started the scoring in the top of the first. Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) reached on an error and stole second. Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) was hit by a pitch and both runners moved up on a failed pickoff attempt at second. With one away, Logan Duff (Forest, Va./Liberty Christian) walked to load the bases. After Quici was erased at the plate on a fielder's choice, Wernoski scored on a wild pitch and Duff touched home on a base hit by Elias Brooks (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) as RMC took a 2-0 lead.
- William Wian (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) rolled a pair of groundouts and walked a batter before play was halted due to lightning in the bottom of the first.
- Once Wian got the last batter to fly out in the bottom of the first, his team was able to tack on more runs in the second. Quici registered a one out triple to right center before Wernoski drove him in with a single to right, increasing the score to 3-0. In the following at bat, Schmitt ripped a double down the right field line, which moved Wernoski to third. Duff took advantage and knocked a single up the middle to drive both Yellow Jackets in for a commanding 5-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the third, Hampden-Syndey got on the board, as a double and a triple saw the home team close the gap to 1-5.
- The first Tiger was able to make the score 2-5 in the bottom of the sixth, as HSC posted a solo home run.
- Randolph-Macon resumed its scoring in the top of the seventh, as Duff walked before Zach Stolze (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) singled, getting two runners on with one out. Once a grounder from Jack Bowles (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) moved them over 90 feet, James Baffone (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) drove them both in with a two-RBI single, taking both HSC runs back for a 7-2 cushion.
- The Tigers used a single from their leadoff batter in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Lemon and Black lead to 4-7 after the next batter homered to left.
- The Yellow Jackets continued to apply offense in the top of the eighth, as Quici led off with a double before he was moved to third as a result of a fly ball from Wernoski. Schmitt worked his at bat to a 2-2 count and went on to drive Quici in with a single, extending the edge to 8-4.
- Bowles started the top of the ninth with a walk and was then pushed to second after a grounder from Elias Brooks (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen). Baffone scooted Bowles all the way to third, which allowed a sacrifice fly from Justin Lanouette (Chantilly, Va./Freedom) to increase the RMC lead to 9-4. Randolph-Macon did not let up, as back-to-back singles from Wernoski and Schmitt ran the count up to 11-4. Once Duff reached on an error to load the bases, Stolze was nailed by a pitch to force the Lemon and Black's 12th run of the day home.
- In the bottom of the ninth, HSC used a single and a walk to get two runners on with one out. Then, the following Tiger hit a home run to left, ending the game down 7-12.
