How it Happened
  • Lilly Fowler (Phoenix, Md./Notre Dame Prep) opened up the scoring with a free-position goal with 12:28 on the clock. The rest of the first quarter, RMC played outstanding defense, holding the Eagles to just three shots, with only one of them on cage. The Yellow Jackets also caused four of Bridgewater's six total turnovers in the period. The Lemon and black only allowed four successful clears out of seven, while they were perfect on the clear.
  • Fowler added her second goal of the game at the 13:40 mark of the second quarter to extend the lead to two goals. Cami McNeally (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) added back-to-back goals, cashing in on a free-position shot of her own to give the Yellow Jackets a three-goal lead and burying a feed from Brooklynn Ricker (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) to go up 4-0. At the 6:27 mark, the Eagles shut down the RMC four-goal run. The Lemon and Black maintained the offensive pressure, tallying three goals over the next three minutes with McNeally completing the hat-trick on the afternoon. At the 2:18 mark, Paige Mayers added the second goal for Bridgewater to cut the deficit to five. With 18 seconds left in the first half, Ricker capitalized on the power play to close out the half with an 8-2 lead.
  • RMC came out of the break picking up right where they left off, scoring back-to-back goals, coming from Reese Toth (Edgewater, Md./South River), finding the back of the net at 14:19 and assisting Fowler at 13:16 on the clock. At the 11:39 mark, the Eagles added their third goal from Carly Gardill, assisted by Mayers. Starting at the 7:32 mark, the Yellow Jackets rattled off three goals over the next four minutes, coming from two separate power-play opportunities. Mayers added another goal from the eight-meter mark to close out the third frame with the score at 13-4.
  • To open the final quarter of regulation, both teams traded possessions until the 7:25 mark when Fowler struck on a free-position shot once again for the 14th RMC goal. Mayers capitalized on a power play free-position shot for the Eagles' fifth goal of the afternoon. With 5:22 left in regulation, McNeally extended the lead back to 10 in favor of the Yellow Jackets to start a running clock. RMC played disciplined defense to run out the final five minutes of the game and earn a 15-5 victory on home turf.
