Hammonds Career Performance Powers #6 Men's Hoops Past HSC

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - Randolph-Macon Men's Basketball saw Delani Hammonds (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell) have a career night in points with 16 overall, leading to a dominant victory over Hampden-Sydney, 69-53.

How it Happened:
  • Randolph-Macon started the game with five straight points with a three-pointer by Jabril Robinson (Rockville, Md./South Kent Prep) and a jumper by Hammonds. The Tigers kept the game in arms reach early, as Tugg Bizzelle made two free throws at the 15:18 mark of the half, but the Yellow Jackets held an 11-7 lead. Theo Antinori (Asheville, N.C./Rabun Gap) and James Carswell (Charlotte, N.C./Cox Mill) both made three balls to push the Lemon and Black ahead to a 17-8 lead with 12:30 on the clock. Hampden-Sydney battled back with an 11-2 run, capped off by a Kolby Wright three-pointer and tied up the game at 19-19 with 7:43 left in the half. Tyree White did give the Tigers their first lead of the game at 22-21, splitting a pair of free throws with under five minutes in the half. Randolph-Macon answered with a furious 15-2 run, as Hammonds accounted for nine of the teams total. The run lasted until the horn sounded and the Yellow Jackets took a 36-24 lead into halftime. 
  • In the second half, the momentum from RMC carried over into a 12-1 run to begin the final 20 minutes. Malcolm Hodges (Richmond, Va./Monacan) led the scoring with four points and the Lemon and Black extended their lead to 48-25 with 15:01 on the clock. Keishawn Pulley Jr. (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's School) nailed a three ball, giving Randolph-Macon its biggest lead of the game at 62-36 with 5:43 left in the game. The Tigers fought hard for the final five minutes of the game, but the two big runs by the Lemon and Black proved to be the decider in a 69-53 win.        
Inside the Numbers:
  • Randolph-Macon shot 41.1 percent from the floor, as Hampden-Sydney knocked down 32.1 percent of its shots.
  • The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Tigers 43-to-31 in the entire game.
  • Hammonds led the Lemon and Black in scoring with a career high 16 points. The sophomore added five rebounds, five assists and two steals. 
  • Antinori ended the game with nine points, four rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. 
  • Robinson and Pulley Jr. each scored eight points for the Yellow Jackets. The duo combined for seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. 
  • Hodges pulled down six rebounds to add to his six point evening. 
For the Record: 
  • Robinson has now passed Corey Bays '20 for sixth all-time in career three-pointers made with 177.
