ASHLAND, Va. – The 7th – ranked Randolph-Macon softball team kicked off their 2026 campaign with a Saturday doubleheader with Mary Washington. The Yellow Jackets were paced by seven total RBIs by
Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) and six scoreless innings by
Courtney Guthrie (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) to earn a sweep over the Eagles.

How it Happened
Game 1:
- The beginning of the season started with a bang, as Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) cranked a lead-off homer over the left field fence. Guthrie shutdown Mary Washington in the top half of the inning and Randolph-Macon would lead 1-0.
- In the bottom of the third inning, Ripley Barry (Buchanan, Va./James River) kicked off the inning with a double into the right center gap. Jacy Ramos (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) hit a one out double, but Barry was forced to stop at third base and two runners stood in scoring position. The bases loaded up when Jordan Brown (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) reached by way of a fielding error at third base. The Yellow Jackets stretched out their lead, as Ashley Bush (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) had a sacrifice fly to plate Barry. Boswell stayed hot at the plate, doubling home Ramos and Brown and pushed RMC out to a 4-0 lead. The inning continued with a two-out bunt single by Alyssa Meharg (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen), moving Boswell to third base. Hill completed the inning with a single to bring home Boswell and Meharg and the Lemon and Black took a commanding 6-0 lead.
- Randolph-Macon saw two errors on one play, allowing Bush to reach second to begin the fourth inning. Meharg hit a double into the gap to move Bush to third base with one out. Hill came through once again and doubled in both Bush and Meharg and extended the Yellow Jacket lead to 8-0.
- In the top half of the fifth inning, Sierra Kegley (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) came in for relief, shutting down the Eagles with three straight strikeouts and completed the 8-0 win for the Lemon and Black.
By the Numbers
- Guthrie started the game and received the win in four shutout innings for the Yellow Jackets. The senior allowed one hit and struck out one batter in her efforts.
- Hill ended the game 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs.
- Boswell also recorded a two-hit game with a homer, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
- Bush recorded the final RBI for the Yellow Jackets.
- Meharg, Barry and Ramos all ended the game with a double each.
How it Happened
Game 2:
- Mary Washington started the scoring in the second game of the doubleheader, as Emily Angel hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning and gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
- In the third inning, Boswell and Meharg hit back-to-back singles with one out to create a scoring threat. Hill unloaded a three-run homer over the right center field fence to push Randolph-Macon into the lead 3-2.
- Kailey Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va./Colonial) settled down in the circle after the two-run Eagles home run in the first inning. The sophomore held Mary Washington scoreless from the second inning until she recorded her final out in the fifth inning.
- The Yellow Jackets sent Guthrie back into the game in the sixth inning, following an Angel single for the Eagles in the sixth inning. The senior shutdown Mary Washington and secured the sweep with a two-inning save.
By the Numbers
- Jackson started game two and tossed five complete innings, giving up two runs on four hits. The sophomore struck out five batters and walked two and recorded the first win of her career.
- Guthrie pitched the final two innings and received the save. The senior allowed one hit total in the final two innings.
- Hill ended the game accounting for all three runs, bringing her two game RBI total to seven overall. The senior hit a three-run homer in the third inning.
- Meharg was the only Yellow Jacket to end the game with double digit hits with two overall.
