How it Happened
- Randolph-Macon controlled the pace to open the game, registering five shots with four on goal. After spending the opening half of the quarter in the offensive zone, Brenna McLean (Rock Hall, Md./Queen Anne's County) was able to find the back of the cage, putting her squad up 1-0. RMC kept the pressure on, generating five more shots on goal and two penalty corners. Then, with less than five minutes to play in the quarter, Courtney Moodie (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) buried her first goal of the season, extending the Yellow Jacket lead to 2-0.
- The Lemon and Black continued to dominate time of possession, posting three shots in the first five minutes. Toward the end of the half, McLean unleashed another shot on goal that was followed by a penalty corner. Despite not scoring in the frame, the home team was able to hold the Colonels without a shot in the first half of the game.
- Centre started to show some resilience, opening the third quarter with three penalty corners and a shot on goal, before Randolph-Macon was able to get a penalty corner of its own. Once Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) made her first save of the game, Kylee Gorham (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) came down the field and put a shot into the crossbar as time expired, with score still at 2-0 heading to the fourth.
- Llana Thach (Henrico, Va./Glen Allen) opened the fourth quarter with her fourth goal of the season, with the assist provided by McLean. After Thach's strike from the top of the circle, Philine Bolt gave the Colonels their first goal of the game, making the score 3-1. Centre then continued to build on its goal, forcing Ambrogi-Torres to make three saves as result of two penalty corners. On the Colonels' fifth shot in 90 seconds, Olivia Vonderheide scored, bringing Centre within one. Even though the road team was able to go on a late run, the Yellow Jackets were able to hold on to their lead and secure a 3-2 victory.
