How it Happened
- Randolph-Macon came out aggressive in the first half and struck quickly. In the 10th minute, Emma Owens (Kernersville, N.C./East Forsyth) connected with Ally Spangler (Daleville, Va./Lord Botetourt) to open the scoring. Just four minutes later, Ariel Farmer (Chesterfield, Va./Clover Hill) set up Caroline Blanchard (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox), who delivered a strike from outside the box to double the Yellow Jackets' lead.
- The offense continued to roll as Owens netted her first goal in the 15th minute off a feed from Maddie Stubblefield (Mechanicsville, Va./Mechanicsville), pushing the margin to 3-0. Blanchard followed with her second goal in the 21st minute, again assisted by Farmer.
- RMC capped off a dominant half when substitute Ella Boyce (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) scored in the 43rd minute on a through ball from Jackie Wenzlik (Durham, N.C./Riverside). Despite several more dangerous chances, Averett goalkeeper Krista Hinebaugh kept the deficit from growing further, and the Jackets carried a commanding 5-0 lead into the break.
- The momentum carried into the second half. Just 24 seconds after the restart, Owens struck again, this time off a pass from Kaylie Scherer (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park). Two minutes later, Alexa Stohr (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) added the only unassisted goal of the match, and in the 49th minute Wenzlik found her first of the season on a slip pass from Spangler.
- The Jackets kept pressing. Scherer connected with Owens, who completed her hat trick to make it 9-0. Wenzlik then tallied her second goal on a combination play with Owens and Spangler, pushing the total to 10.
- Spangler added her second of the evening on a through ball from Owens, and Natalie Moxey (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) closed out the scoring with RMC's 12th goal, assisted by Reagan Patrick (Boise, Id./Kettle Run) for her first helper of the season.
