Men's Golf Opens Play at the Donald Ross Invitational

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio. - Randolph-Macon men's golf is in action for the first time since its seventh place finish at the Ted Barclay Fall Invitational three weeks ago, taking part in the first round of the Donald Ross Intercollegiate in Shaker Heights, Ohio. 

The tournament field is represented by seven different programs, with the eighth team being a "B" team from John Carroll University. The Yellow Jackets had seven athletes in action in the field, five a part of a team scoring system and two members of the team competing as individuals. 

Charlie Wilkerson (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) kept his consistent play going in round one, shooting three-over on the front nine and two-over on the back nine. The sophomore ended the round with nine pars and two birdies, finishing +5 (77) overall. Wilkerson is currently tied for 20th in the individual scores for the tournament. 

Michael Schaal (Chapel Hill, N.C./Carolina Friends) stepped up on the back-nine of the first round, firing a +1 (37) on the final nine holes. The junior totaled pars on eight holes overall, while adding two birdies on the back-nine. Schaal ended the entire round with a +7 (79) to sit in a tie for 29th as an individual. 

Will Johnson (Blackstone, Va./Kenston Forest School) completed a first round that saw the freshman finish strong on the back-nine. The 18-hole round had Johnson finish at +10 (82), having eight pars and two birdies. 

Luke Richardson (Davidsonville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) recorded a +12 (84) in the 18-hole round for the Yellow Jackets. The senior had pars on eight holes and added a birdie on the seventeenth hole. 

James Oh (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) rounded out the group with a +18 (90). The sophomore recorded pars on seven holes and also had birdie on the sixth hole of the first round. 

Kole Kohut (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) ended an impressive first round as an individual for Randolph-Macon, shooting a +2 (74). The sophomore fired pars on 12 out of 18 total holes, while adding two birdies on the back-nine. Kohut is currently tied for sixth on the individual list for the tournament. 

Ty White (Emporia, Va./Greensville County) was the second Yellow Jacket to play apart from the team score. The sophomore finished with an overall score of +6 (78) to place tied for 24th in individual scoring. White ended the round with pars on 12 holes and added a birdie on hole 16 for Randolph-Macon.
