How It Happened
- The Yellow Jackets applied pressure early, generating chances between the 17th and 23rd minutes with shots from Ariel Farmer (Chesterfield, Va./Clover Hill), Alexa Stohr (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax), Madison Blanchard (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) and Ally Spangler (Daleville, Va./Lord Botetourt).
- The match remained scoreless until the 31st minute, when Kamille Purcell gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. Just two minutes later, Emma Owens (Kernersville, N.C./East Forsyth) connected with Spangler to level the match. Randolph-Macon continued to create opportunities but could not find the go-ahead goal, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
- After the break, the Yellow Jackets pressed for the lead with chances from Jackie Wenzlik (Durham, N.C./Riverside) and Spangler. Stevenson looked to answer, but the Randolph-Macon back line held strong. Strong defensive efforts from Maddie Stubblefield (Mechanicsville, Va./Mechanicsville), Kaylie Scherer (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park), Abigail Pesut (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) and Thalia Outhuok (Falls Church, Va./Justice) kept the Mustangs off the board, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
