How It Happened
- The Yellow Jackets came out firing, putting pressure on the Seahawks' defense from the opening whistle. Forwards Alexa Stohr (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) and Lauren Brokaw (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) both tested the keeper with shots on goal in the opening minutes.
- St. Mary's responded with brief offensive pressure, but the RMC backline, led by Abigail Pesut (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam), Maddie Stubblefield (Mechanicsville, Va./Mechanicsville), and Kaylie Scherer (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park), stood tall and allowed just one shot in the first half. The teams entered the break tied 0-0.
- Randolph-Macon broke through quickly after halftime. In the 45th minute, Madison Blanchard (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) netted her first career goal to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead. In the 78th minute, Ariel Farmer (Chesterfield, Va./Clover Hill) connected with Ally Spangler (Daleville, Va./Lord Botetourt), who buried her chance to double the advantage.
- The Seahawks pushed to cut into the deficit, but goalkeeper Erin Morris (Manchester, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and the backline secured the 2-0 win.
