How It Happened
- Roanoke struck first in the opening minutes as Kacee Schmidt converted to give the Maroons a 1-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets responded with a push forward following a free kick, as Alexa Stohr (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) put a shot on frame that sailed just wide.
- In the eighth minute, Roanoke looked to extend its lead, but goalkeeper Briton Warham (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville Senior) came up with two key saves to keep the Jackets within striking distance. In the closing minutes of the half, Randolph-Macon pressed for the equalizer with looks from Ally Spangler (Daleville, Va./Lord Botetourt) and Caroline Blanchard (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox), though both attempts were stopped by Maroons keeper Grace Suchy as the Jackets entered the break trailing 1-0.
- Randolph-Macon came out of halftime strong, producing back-to-back chances from Ariel Farmer (Chesterfield, Va./Clover Hill) and Stohr just one minute apart. Momentum swung in the 58th minute when Roanoke's goalkeeper was whistled for a yellow card. Stohr capitalized on the penalty kick, burying the equalizer to tie the match at 1-1.
- Both sides traded possession and chances the rest of the way, but neither backline broke as the match ended in a hard-fought draw.
