How It Happened:

  • The Yellow Jackets put together a two-out rally in the second in the opener. Sophomore Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) had a single to right center and scored on the third homer of the season by junior Logan Duff (Forest, Va./Liberty Christian) to make it 2-0.
  • RMC put up another crooked number in the third. Junior Jordan Hill (Norfolk, Va./Granby) dropped in a leadoff double down the left field line and was sacrificed to third by sophomore Jack Bowles (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover). Junior Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) struck out swinging but reached first on a wild pitch. Another wild pitch sent Schmitt to second and Hill should have been out at the plate, but was safe on an error as the advantage grew to 3-0. With two away, senior Aidan Pinto (Virginia Veach, Va./Ocean Lakes) launched his third home run of the season as RMC went up 5-0.
  • The Yellow Jackets added to their lead in the fourth. Sophomore James Baffone (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) was hit by a pitch, went to second on a fielder's choice and scored on a base hit by Bowles to make it 6-0.
  • RMC recorded another crooked number in the fifth. Senior Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School) had a leadoff single and walks to Pinto and sophomore Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) loaded the bases. A walk to Quici brought home Harvey. Pinto scored on a wild pitch and Wernoski came in on a single by Baffone. Hill capped the five-run outburst with a two-run double to left to make it 11-0.
  • The Tigers tallied five in the sixth before the Yellow Jackets got one back in the seventh. Schmitt drew a one-out walk, went to second on a single by Harvey and came home on an error to make it 12-5.
  • Quici had a two-run double to cap a five-run eighth as RMC posted the 17-5 victory.

By The Numbers

  • Senior Sam Slevin (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank Cox) worked out of a jam in the sixth and pitched 2.2 scoreless frames with one hit and two strikeouts.
  • Freshman Malachi Paschal (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) retired the Tigers in order in the ninth with two strikeouts.

How It Happened:

  • The Tigers scored three in the top of the first to take the early lead before the Yellow Jackets responded in the fourth. Quici had a leadoff triple and came home on a sacrifice fly by Hill to make it 3-1.

Hill was hit by a pitch and he and Quici scored on a triple by Baffone, giving the home team a 4-3 edge.
  • The Yellow Jackets put two on in the sixth and seventh, but were unable to add to their lead.
  • H-SC put up two unearned runs with two away in the eighth to reclaim the lead at 5-4.
  • Wernoski had a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth and was sacrificed to second by Quici. Hill was hit by a pitch to put two on. A groundout by Baffone put two in scoring position with two away, but both were stranded in the 5-4 decision.
