ASHLAND, Va. – The second-seeded Randolph-Macon baseball team defeated top-seeded SUNY Brockport in an elimination game before falling to fourth-seeded Methodist in a second elimination contest on Saturday on Day 2 of the Ashland Regional, part of the 2025 NCAA Championship.

How It Happened
- The Golden Eagles plated two in the bottom of the first before the Yellow Jackets put up their own crooked number in the second. Sophomore Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) drew a leadoff walk and went to second on a one-out bunt hit by junior Jordan Hill (Norfolk, Va./Granby). Freshman Brian Fleming (Rehoboth, Del./Cape Henlopen) singled to load the bases. Making just his sixth start of the season, junior Alex Hagerich (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) delivered a two-run single to knock in Quici and Hill to level the score at 2-2. Fleming scored on a single by sophomore Jack Bowles (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) and Hagerich came home on a sacrifice fly by junior Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) as RMC took a 4-2 advantage.
- RMC added to its lead in the third. Senior Aidan Pinto (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) had a leadoff single and moved to second on a walk to Quici. After both runners advanced one base on a passed ball, Pinto scored on a base hit by sophomore Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) to make it 5-2. Hagerich singled to drive in Quici as the lead grew to 6-2.
- The Yellow Jackets put up another crooked number in the fifth. Wernoski had a one-out single and went to third on a double by Hill. Fleming brought both runners in with a base hit to make it 8-2.
- Brockport added a run in the bottom of the fifth before RMC picked up one in the eighth. Bowles drew a one-out walk, went to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on an error and came home on a sacrifice fly by Schmitt to make it 9-3.
- The Golden Eagles plated on in the ninth to make the final 9-4.

- Hagerich went 2 for 4 with a run and three RBI.
- Fleming was 2 for 4 with a run and two RBI.
- Hill went 2 for 3 with a walk and two runs.

- Senior Bere Bauers (Phoenixville, Pa./Devon Prep) started and went 5.2 innings to earn the win and raise his record to 4-3.
- Senior Sam Slevin (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank Cox) fanned three over 2.1 innings.
- Senior Michael Shanahan (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) recorded the final three outs to secure the win.

How It Happened
- The Monarchs lost 6-3 to Messiah in the second game of the day, setting up a meeting with the Yellow Jackets.
- After MU was retired in order in the top of the first, RMC got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame. Bowles was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a wild pitch to give the home team a 1-0 edge.
- The Yellow Jackets kept the offense going in the second. Quici had a leadoff double and scored on a wild pitch. Junior Logan Duff (Forest, Va./Liberty Christian) was hit by a pitch, Hagerich walked and Bowles walked to load the bases. With two away, Schmitt delivered a two-run single to give RMC a 4-0 lead.
- The Monarchs got one in the fourth and three in the fifth to knot the score at 4-4. The Yellow Jackets loaded the bases in the sixth and seventh but were unable to break the deadlock.
- MU broke the tie in the top of the ninth and claimed the 5-4 win.

- Slevin made his 28th appearance of the season, the top mark in the nation and breaking his program record of 26 set a season ago. Slevin has 87 career appearances and 17 career saves, both program records.
- Methodist will have to beat Messiah twice on Sunday to win the Ashland Regional.
