BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The 12th – ranked Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets saw
Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) homer twice, total five hits and six RBIs in a split with Bridgewater.

How it Happened
Game 1:
- Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) began the top of the first inning with a single up the middle. Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenburg County) split the outfielders in left center field with a double, allowing Lanyon to score all the way from first base. Davis came up with two outs in the inning and knocked in Powell with a double into deep left center field, giving Randolph-Macon an early 2-0 lead.
- In the second inning, Jordan Brown (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) kicked off the offense with a single up and the middle. The Yellow Jackets would come through with two outs for the second straight inning, Lanyon drove in Brown with a single into left field. The first two innings saw the Lemon and Black rack up five quick hits and hold a 3-0 lead.
- The offense would stay hot in the third inning, as Powell doubled and Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) singled in back-to-back at bats to begin the inning. Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) put down a nice bunt to bring home Powell from third base. Davis capped off the three run inning with a two-run bomb over the left field fence for the Yellow Jackets. Randolph-Macon has now accumulated eight hits in the first three innings, pumping its lead to 6-0.
- In the fourth inning, Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick) singled and Lanyon drew a walk with one out. Powell reached on a fielder's choice that had Sadler get out at third base, but Hill singled up the middle to plate Lanyon. Boswell walked on four pitches to load up the bases with two outs still in the inning. Davis continued her dominance at the plate for Randolph-Macon, hitting a single through the left side of the infield to drive in Powell and Hill. The eleven hit outburst in the first four innings has made the lead 9-0 for the Lemon and Black.
- Bridgewater did get a run in the bottom half of the fourth inning, McKenna Mueller scored on an error in left field for Randolph-Macon on a deep fly ball from Lexi Schaaf.
- Courtney Guthrie (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) came in to finish the game in the fifth inning. The junior got out of a bases loaded situation to finish the game in the fifth inning with the Yellow Jackets winning 9-1.
Inside the Numbers:
- Ellis ended the game as the winning pitcher and would record her fifteenth win of the season. The senior threw four complete innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit. Ellis struck out six batters in game one to lead Randolph-Macon to the game one victory.
- Davis finished game one leading the offense going 3-for-3 with a home run and a double with five RBIs.
- Powell had two doubles and an RBI in game one for the Yellow Jackets.
- Lanyon and Hill each tallied two hit games and both recorded an RBI.
- Boswell would account for the final RBI in the first game for Randolph-Macon.
How it Happened
Game 2:
- Bridgewater started the party in game two, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the first inning to take an early lead. Mackenzie Cauthorn led off the game with a walk for the Eagles and scored on a Jazmyne Smith double for the first run. Jordan Wise singled through the infield to plate Smith to double the lead for Bridgewater.
- In the third inning, Caroline Malandra got on base with an infield single and scored from first by a Mueller single up the middle. Malandra was able to score by an error in center field by the Lemon and Black.
- Randolph-Macon did put pressure on the Eagles in the top of the fourth, as Davis singled and Boswell doubled to put runners in scoring position and nobody out. Cauthorn threw nine straight strikes to record three straight strikeouts to get Bridgewater out of the jam and hold the 3-0 lead.
- In the fifth inning Powell would double to once again put a threat on the bases for the Yellow Jackets. Hill battled through a tough at bat to single down the left field and score Powell to put Randolph-Macon on the board. Davis drew a walk and Boswell singled in the infield to load up the bases with two outs. Bridgewater forces a ground ball out and limits the damage to one run, as the Yellow Jackets draw closer, trailing 3-1.
- Randolph-Macon tried to mount a comeback in the final inning. Davis hit her second homer of the afternoon with two outs in the seventh to draw the Yellow Jackets within one run at 3-2. The Lemon and Black managed to get the next two runners on base, but the Eagles recorded the final out to win a close game two by a score of 3-2.
Inside the Numbers:
- Guthrie started game two for Randolph-Macon and took the loss. The junior tossed 2.1 innings and gave up three runs (one earned) on four hits. She also had a walk and struck out one batter in her efforts.
- Ellis was called in for the final 3.2 innings and kept the Yellow Jackets in the game. The senior did not allow a hit and tallied six strikeouts to keep Bridgewater off the scoreboard.
- Davis ended game two with two hits, including her second homer of the day and also walked twice.
- Boswell went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double for Randolph-Macon.
- Hill was responsible for the lone other RBI in the second game with a single in the fifth.
For the Record:
- Davis hit her 16th and 17th home runs of her career, hitting one in each game. The homers would move her past Brooke Snyder'08 for the sixth most homers in school history. The senior has also moved past Harley James'18 and Laura Bauer'12 for the fourth most RBIs in a career at Randolph-Macon with her six overall today. Davis has also moved past Bauer for seventh most total bases in Yellow Jacket history. The senior finally recorded her 175th hit of her career, moving her past Carrie Barchick'08 for fourth most in program history.
- Sadler moved past Savannah Wood'19 for the seventh most hits in school history with 168.
- Ellis has now recorded 144 strikeouts this season, which puts her seventh overall for single season strikeouts. The senior also has nine shutouts this season, placing her third in a single season in Yellow Jacket history.
