The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 14, Christopher Newport 8
Venue: Captains Field

How It Happened:
- The Yellow Jackets started the scoring in the top of the second. Quici had a leadoff single, moved to second on a walk to sophomore James Baffone (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) and scored on a base hit by freshman CJ Chatterton (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) to give the visitors a 1-0 edge.
- RMC added to its lead an inning later. Sophomore Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a walk to junior Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's). A single by senior Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) loaded the bases and senior Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School) walked to force in the second run. Quici delivered a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
- The Captains plated one in the third and two in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3. CNU added a run in the sixth to take its first lead at 4-3.
- The Yellow Jackets would reclaim the lead in the top of the seventh. Harvey had a one-out single and went to second when Quici walked. With two away, Harvey and Quici both scored on errors to give RMC a 5-4 advantage.
- CNU responded with four in the bottom of the seventh to go up 8-5. RMC would explode for eight in the eighth. Wernoski walked and Schmitt homered, his third of the season, to pull the Yellow Jackets within one at 8-7. Lautenschlager and Harvey followed with singles. Quici reached on a bunt single and Lautenschlager scored on an errant throw to tie the game at 8-8. A sacrifice fly by Baffone brought home Harvey as RMC took a 9-8 lead. With two away, Chatterton doubled to move Quici to third. Both runners scored on balks to make it 11-8. Sophomore Jack Bowles (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and came home on a double by Wernoski as the score moved to 12-8. Wernoski would score on an error to give RMC a 13-8 lead.
