SALEM, Va. - Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse fell to Roanoke, 15-8, despite strong performances from
Avery Tankersley (Baltimore, Md./Boys Latin) and
Brodie Kent (Coquitlam, Canada/Centennial).

How it Happened
- Roanoke started the scoring with a 10th-minute goal from Luca Docking. The Maroons took an early 2-0 lead with another first-quarter score. JT Harvey (Ruther Glen, Va./Riverbend) ignited the scoring for Randolph-Macon with a seventh-minute goal. Roanoke responded with another score to regain a two-score lead with 4:46 left to play in the first period. Roanoke scored another before Peyton Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, Ca./Bishop Garcia Diego) responded with his eighth goal of his junior season at the 2:19 mark.
- The Maroons scored 2:07 into the second quarter to take a 5-2 lead but Avery Tankersley (Baltimore, Md./Boys Latin) quickly replied with a goal to keep the deficit at two goals. Sophomore Hunter Drake (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) followed up with a goal assisted by Tankersley to pull the Jackets within one. Roanoke rattled off five straight scores to extend their lead to six with 3:06 to play in the half. Matt Carter (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) netted a goal at the 2:26 mark to get the Jackets back on the board. Roanoke led Randolph-Macon 10-5 at the break.
- Roanoke picked up right where they left off netting the only three goals of the third quarter. Senior goalie Jack Twomey (Reston, Va./Gonzaga) stepped up big in the closing seconds of the third with a save to keep the Maroons from adding to their lead.
- Roanoke added another goal 1:34 into the fourth quarter. Tankersley added to the Jackets' tally with his second goal of the game at the 11-minute mark. Rodriguez netted his second goal of the afternoon to bring Randolph-Macon back within seven goals. Grant Sobel (Mechanicsville, Va./Christchurch) netted his first goal of the game with 7:36 left to push the Jackets closer. Roanoke scored again to stay ahead and walk away with a 15-8 victory.
Inside the Numbers
- Tankersley led the Yellow Jackets with three points, contributing two goals and an assist. The Baltimore native also scooped up a ground ball.
- Brodie Kent (Coquitlam, Canada/Centennial) led the Lemon and Black with five ground balls and tallied a caused turnover.
- Faceoff specialists Will Robertson (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) and Carson Mingo (Cambridge, Md./Gilman) won a combined 15 of the 26 faceoffs and tallied four and three ground balls respectively.
- Rodriguez scored twice on the day, marking his second multi-goal outing of the season.
- The Yellow Jackets were successful on 83% of their clear attempts.
- Mike Allen (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) scooped up a ground ball and caused two turnovers.
