RALEIGH, N.C. - The 17th – ranked Randolph-Macon softball team split with Meredith on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets were paced by
Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) recording her fourth perfect game of her career in game one.
Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) also garnered the all-time record for doubles in a career in game one for Randolph-Macon.

How it Happened
Game 1:
- Madison Faries (Colonial Heights, Va./Colonial Heights) and Lanyon both began the first inning with back-to-back walks. Ellis made Meredith pay for the walks to begin the game, as she singled through the left side of the infield to score Lanyon from second base. Ellis started the game in the circle in the bottom half of the inning and struck out two of the three batters she faced. Randolph-Macon would take a 1-0 lead into the second inning.
- In the third inning, Faries doubled into left center field and would Ellis traded places with her in the very next at-bat. The Avenging Angels would keep the deficit at 2-0 by sitting down the next two Yellow Jacket batters.
- Blayne Talley (Richmond, Va./Cosby) walked to begin the fourth inning, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. The sophomore would cross home on a Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) groundout to second base to extend the Lemon and Black lead to 3-0.
- Ellis was in control in the circle for Randolph-Macon has she struck out ten straight batters from the second to fifth inning. Meredith had a flyout in the fifth inning to end the streak. The New Kent native kept the Avenging Angels off the bases striking out 13 of 15 she faced through five innings.
- In the sixth inning, Talley and Davis both singled to start the inning and create a run scoring threat. Kiley Lamberth (Mechanicsville, Va./Mechanicsville) grounded out to third and Talley was able to score on throw to first. Alyssa Meharg (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) pinch ran for Davis and would be cross home on a Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenburg County) sacrifice flyout to center field. The two runs would extend the Yellow Jacket lead to 5-0, heading into the final at-bats for Meredith.
- Talley doubled with one out in the seventh inning and scored Mya Davis (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) that pinched hit for Jordan Brown (Yorktown, Va./Tabb). The Lemon and Black also saw Lamberth hit a two out two-run homer to extend the lead further to 8-0. Courtney Guthrie (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) kept the inning going with a single and would cross home on an error by the Meredith left fielder on a Lanyon flyball. Randolph-Macon loaded up the bases with walks by Riley Koscinski (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester) and Ellis, still with two outs. Ashley Bush (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) and Mya Davis both walked to bring home Lanyon and Koscinski, as the four straight walks pushed the Yellow Jacket lead to 11-0.
- Ellis sat down the Avenging Angels in order with three straight strikeouts to record her second perfect game of the season, as the Lemon and Black take game one 11-0.
Inside the Numbers:
- Ellis finished the game with her fourth perfect game of her career. The senior struck out 19 opposing hitters in the seven inning game, as that is a new career high for the senior. She also was elite at the plate going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk.
- Lamberth led the Yellow Jackets in RBIs with three in game one. The junior ended the game with a two-run homer.
- Kayla Davis and Lanyon both notched two hits in game and totalled an RBI each.
- Talley went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two stolen bases for Randolph-Macon.
For the Record:
- Lanyon hit her 44th double of her career, passing Madison Gilman'16 for the top spot in program history.
- Ellis has now recorded her fourth perfect game of her career at Randolph-Macon. The senior has also believed to tie Virginia Wesleyan's Hanna Hull's strikeout ODAC conference record for a single game with 19.
How it Happened
Game 2:
- Randolph-Macon got on the board in the top half of the second inning, scoring one run to take the lead 1-0. Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) walked with one out in the inning, moved over to second on an infield single by Lamberth and both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Hill would come home on a groundout by Bush and give the Yellow Jackets that 1-0 lead.
- The Avenging Angels countered in the bottom half of the inning, starting the inning with two singles by Ashbee Standridge and Savannah Talley with one out. Kaydon Roberson hit the third single of the inning up the middle to bring home Standridge to tie up the game. Savannah Talley later scored on a Emilee Lewis ground ball to shortstop that the Lemon and Black got an out on a fielders choice. The two runs with give Meredith a 2-1 lead heading into the third inning of game two.
- In the third inning, Standridge homered over the center field fence to extend the Avenging Angels lead to 3-1. Tess Spangenburg drew a walk and later scored on a Roberson double into the left field gap, as the Meredith lead would be 4-1.
- Standridge hit her second home run of the game in the fourth inning and Meredith scored three runs overall to up the lead to 7-1.
- In the fifth inning, hits would keep coming for the Avenging Angels and a bases-loaded single up the middle would end the game. Meredith ended the game with twelve hits and won 9-1 to split with Randolph-Macon.
Inside the Numbers:
- Kailey Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va./Colonial) started the game in the circle for the Yellow Jackets. The freshman allowed two runs on four hits and recorded one strikeout in 1.1 innings of work. Dylan McNerney (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) and Katerina Brabson (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) combined to throw the next three innings, letting up seven runs on eight hits.
- Kayla Davis and Lamberth were responsible for the only two hits for the Lemon and Black in game two.
- Bush recorded the only RBI for Randolph-Macon in the game.
