Ambrogi-Torres’ Epic Season Continues, Earns NFHCA Weekly Honor

11/5/2025 9:07:00 AM

WEXFORD, Pa. – Junior goalkeeper Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) has been selected as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Defensive Player of the Week for Division III field hockey.

Ambrogi-Torres' first-career NFHCA Weekly Defensive Player of the Week honor represents the program's first-ever National Player of the Week award. RMC field hockey's only previous national recognition was Gatlin Snyder, as she was listed as an honorable mention for the award in October, 2021.

In the past week, Ambrogi-Torres guided the Yellow Jackets to two shutout victories in their last two games of the regular season. The Lemon and Black secured a win against Virginia Wesleyan, 1-0 on the road, in their midweek matchup. RMC went on to beat Roanoke, 2-0 at home to close out their regular season. Against the Marlins, Ambrogi-Torres logged all 60 minutes, making all five stops in the contest. She followed this performance with another 60-minute, five-save shutout; this time, against the 6th-seeded Maroons in the ODAC Tournament.

After recording her eighth shutout of the season, Ambrogi-Torres has helped the 2025 Yellow Jackets join the 2021 Yellow Jackets team as the only two RMC field hockey programs since 2000 to record eight shutouts in a single season. Additionally, after securing both victories, Ambrogi-Torres' 2025 Yellow Jackets joined the 2023 Yellow Jackets team as the only two RMC field hockey programs since 2011 to reach the 11-win mark.

Being that the junior goalkeeper did not allow a single goal during the week, she now ranks third in the country in save percentage (.869) and 23rd in saves per game (8.31). She will look to continue her impressive play when the Yellow Jackets face Lynchburg in the ODAC Tournament Semifinals on Thursday, November 6 at 3:30 p.m.
