#2 Men’s Hoops’ Second-Half Surge Overwhelms (RV) Yeshiva, 92–57


ASHLAND, Va. - Randolph-Macon erupted for 55 second-half points on the way to a commanding 92–57 home-opening win over (RV) Yeshiva.

The Basics:

How it Happened:
  • In the first three minutes, Yeshiva used a hot start by Dothan Bardichev to jump out in front to a slim 5-4 lead. Delani Hammonds (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell) led Randolph-Macon by scoring four of the next six points, pushing the Yellow Jackets into a 10-5 lead with 15:41 on the clock. The lead would grow to double digits on a Malcolm Hodges (Richmond, Va./Monacan) tough lay-up, pushing the advantage to 23-11 for the Lemon and Black. The Maccabees would stay within distance following an Or Sundjyvsky lay-up with 4:30 left in the first half, as Randolph-Macon still held the lead 27-18. The Yellow Jackets scored eight straight points, half of which were credited to Keishawn Pulley Jr. (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's School) and the lead would extend to 35-18 with 3:00 left on the clock. Yeshiva answered with an 8-2 run that ran until the halftime buzzer, Yoav Oselka scored four of the eight and the Yellow Jackets would hold a 37-26 lead at halftime. 
  • The start of the second half saw the Lemon and Black outscore Yeshiva 11-4, going 5-for-5 from the field.  Liam Joyce (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and Hodges combined for nine points, giving Randolph-Macon a commanding 48-30 lead. The perfect shooting continued for the Yellow Jackets, knocking down their first seven field goal attempts of the second half. Joyce cashed in on a lay-up with 16:04 on the clock and Randolph-Macon leading 52-36. Theo Antinori (Asheville, N.C./Rabun Gap) nailed a three ball to push the lead to twenty points at 57-36. At the 7:52 mark of the second half, Hodges made a bucket to extend the lead for the Yellow Jackets to thirty points at 75-44. The 62.9 percent shooting clip in the second half helped Randolph-Macon win in dominant fashion 92-57.   
Inside the Numbers:
  • Randolph-Macon shot 57.4 percent from the floor, as Yeshiva knocked down 46.9 percent of its shots. 
  • The Yellow Jackets and Maccabees were tied in rebounds with each team pulling down 32 in the game. 
  • Hodges led the team with 15 points, shooting 7-of-9 from the floor. The junior also pulled down five rebounds, blocked a shot and recorded a steal. 
  • Antinori knocked down four three-pointers en route to a 14 point performance. Joyce finished with 13 points, three blocks, three rebounds and a steal. 
  • Hammonds finished with 10 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals for the Yellow Jackets. 
  • Amr Areikat (Ramallah, Palestine./Langley) and Oliver Jones (Middletown, Del./South Kent Prep) each scored nine points. 
  • Jabril Robinson (Rockville, Md./South Kent Prep) dished out six assists to go with his seven point evening.
