How it Happened
- In the opening minute of the game, Virginia Wesleyan generated a penalty corner opportunity that created a shot. After the Yellow Jackets blocked the attempt, they earned two penalty corners of their own, as Courtney Moodie (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) put a shot high just five minutes into the game. After only one shot for the next nine minutes, Dresler buried the first goal of the game with a minute left in the first, giving her squad a 1-0 advantage heading into the second quarter.
- The Lemon and black came out on the attack, firing two shots in the first minute, including a shot on goal from Kylee Gorham (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland). After defending successfully, the Marlins claimed the momentum as they forced Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) to make her first stop of the game. The Marlins went on to earn four penalty corner opportunities over a three-minute span in the middle of the frame. Not only did Ambrogi-Torres stop another shot during the run, the Yellow Jackets were able to retain a 1-0 lead at halftime.
- Dresler opened the third quarter with a shot on goal, before Virginia Wesleyan tallied a shot as a result of a penalty corner. Seven minutes into the second half, the Marlins put another shot on goal, forcing Ambrogi-Torres to make her third stop of the game. With five minutes left before the start of the fourth, Dresler posted her third shot on goal of the game. Then, in the final minute of the quarter, the Marlins registered back-to-back shots on goal. RMC's junior goalkeeper was able to make both saves, preserving the 1-0 lead.
- Neither team was able to apply the pressure for the first chunk of the fourth quarter, as Olivia Greene (Amissville, Va./Culpeper County) posted the first shot for either team in the frame, five minutes in. After each program earned penalty corners, Dresler ripped another shot, that was blocked with five minutes remaining. The two teams traded fouls down the stretch, resulting in a 1-0 win for the Yellow Jackets' 10th victory of the season.
