FOREST, Va. – Junior goalkeeper
Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) has been named ODAC Defensive Player of the Week for a career-high fourth time this season and for the seventh time in her career. Her four weekly awards are the most recorded by any player in ODAC Field Hockey this season.
Ambrogi-Torres guided her team to a 1-1 record in the past week, including a 3-2 penalty shootout victory. The junior logged all 80 minutes, making nine saves while only allowing two goals against Bridgewater. She capped off an incredible performance by not allowing a single goal in any of the Eagles' four penalty shootout opportunities. She followed this performance with a 12-save game against No. 20 Shenandoah, marking the fourth road game this season she has posted 12-or-more saves. Despite the 2-0 loss, Ambrogi-Torres held the Hornets to just one goal scored in the first 59 minutes and 56 seconds of play.
The goalkeeper's .860 save percentage leads the ODAC this season and ranks seventh in the country. Additionally, her 8.54 saves per game ranks second in the ODAC and 21
st in the nation. Ambrogi-Torres' 21 saves are the most she has made in back-to-back home and away games this season.
The Yellow Jackets have only allowed more than two goals scored twice this season. Their next game will take place in Virginia Beach, where they will battle Virginia Wesleyan at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29.
