How it Happened
  • Through the first 10 minutes of play, Washington and Lee was able to post the first three shots of the game. With four minutes remaining in the quarter, Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) was forced to make back-to-back saves, keeping the game scoreless. The junior goalkeeper was forced to make one more stop with two minutes left in the frame, helping to keep the game 0-0 heading into the second quarter.
  • The second quarter opened with higher intensity from both programs. The Generals earned a penalty corner in the first 15 seconds and recorded a shot that was blocked. The Yellow Jackets earned a penalty corner of their own, as Annie Pruitt (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded the first shot on goal for her squad. Even though Llana Thach (Henrico, Va./Glen Allen) was able to follow with a shot of her own, Madeline Lancione recorded the first goal of the game, putting the Generals up 1-0. W&L continued its momentum from the goal, as Britty Page scored with two minutes remaining in the half, extending the Generals' lead to 2-0.
  • Washington and Lee continued to test Ambrogi-Torres to open the third, firing three shots in the first five minutes. In the seventh minute of the quarter, W&L put three more shots on frame, with the third getting by Ambrogi-Torres off the stick of Sydney Baggett, putting the Generals up 3-0. Over the next six minutes, Washington and Lee registered six shots off two penalty corners, resulting in the Generals' fourth goal of the afternoon. Zoe Dolfis pushed her team out to the 4-0 lead, just before the end of the quarter.
  • Randolph-Macon opened the fourth quarter with the momentum, as Kylee Gorham (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) and Breea Dresler (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) each recorded shots as a result of a penalty corner. After the Lemon and Black were unable to convert on the opportunity, the Generals created six consecutive shots of their own, culminating in a goal from Margaret Scheurer to put the Generals up for good, 5-0.
