How it Happened
  • In the first 10 minutes of play, RMC was controlling the time of possession but neither team was able to post any shots. With four minutes remaining in the first, RMC attempted the first and only penalty corner of the quarter, which resulted in two shots; one from McLean and one from Breea Dresler (Yorktown, Va./Tabb). Even though the score remained 0-0, the Yellow Jackets applied pressure all quarter.
  • The Yellow Jackets picked up where they left off at the end of the first, by recording three shots and a penalty corner in the first five minutes of play. Cali Kujawa (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) recorded the only shot on goal of the three shots, before Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) was forced to make her first save halfway through the second frame. RMC poured the pressure on for the last seven minutes of the quarter, tallying seven shots, including four on goal, as well as four penalty corners. Despite no goals, the Yellow Jackets held the Vixens to only one total shot in the quarter.
  • The Lemon and Black earned a penalty corner to start the third frame but they were unable to convert. After Ambrogi-Torres made her second stop, the home team fired off three shots in one minute but were unable to find the back of the cage. The Vixens then found some momentum, putting back-to-back shots on goal and earned a penalty corner with six minutes remaining in the third. RMC defended and went on to post four shots in the final five minutes, including two on goal from Dresler.
  • Sweet Briar opened the fourth quarter with the momentum, tallying three shots in the first minute of play. After a successful defensive stand, RMC lived in the offensive zone, controlling play for the rest of the quarter. Dresler, Janne Roelink (Den Helder, Netherlands/Norfolk Collegiate), and Llana Thach (Henrico, Va./Glen Allen) all recorded shots, but the game remained scoreless.
  • As overtime began, Roelink posted two shots, including one on goal, but Reiyn Hart was able to make the stop. Kylee Gorham (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) then rifled off three consecutive shots, with two getting blocked. The Yellow Jackets kept the Vixens on their heels, as Gorham and McLean put another two shots on goal within seconds. Finally, after Dresler totaled her seventh, eighth and ninth shots of the game, McLean scored the game-winning goal, giving RMC a 1-0 victory.
Inside the Numbers

  • RMC was able to generate 12 penalty corners on the night, compared to three from SBC. The Yellow Jackets held the Vixens without a penalty corner attempt in the first half.

  • Gorham totaled seven shots on the evening, good for second-most in the game. She now has 15 total shots in her past two games.
