DANVILLE, Va. - Randolph-Macon women's basketball won its fifteenth straight game, behind three Yellow Jackets scoring in double figures and 34 points scored off the bench, defeating Averett 67-34.

How it Happened:
- Averett would start the game with the first points by Jaa Brown on the Cougars first chance on offense. The Yellow Jackets would answer with a 9-2 run, guided by tough defense and great ball movement, taking a 9-4 lead with 4:51 left in the first period. Morgan Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) extended the run with two straight three balls to also extend the lead for the Lemon and Black to eleven points and score at 15-4. Randolph-Macon held the Cougars to 2-of-16 (12.5 percent) shooting in the first ten minutes. The offense ended the first period on a 16-2 run that lasted for almost five minutes, led by the back-to-back three pointers by Miller and tough play by Catherine Kagey (Roanoke, Va./Faith Christian). The Lemon and Black would take a 19-4 lead into the second period.
- In the second period, Randolph-Macon scored the first eight points of the period, as Anna Wilcox (Asheville, N.C./A.C. Reynolds) highlighted with a three-pointer of her own. The defense of the Yellow Jackets was on full display, holding Averett to no made shots since early in the first period. The 31-2 run would be extended into the late portions of the second period. The Cougars ended the 34-2 run with a driving layup by Brown 2:33 left in the second period. Rachael Anderson (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) made the final bucket for the Lemon and Black with less than a minute in the first half. Averett would be held to 19.5 percent shooting in the first half to the Yellow Jackets 46.7 percent shooting. Randolph-Macon used a huge run to take a 36-13 lead into the halftime break.
- Averett began the third period on a 7-2 run to pull the deficit down to 38-20, early in the period. The Yellow Jackets managed to run the floor and converted two straight fast break layups to push the lead back to 42-20 with 6:15 on the clock. The flow of the game returned to Randolph-Macon, as they answered with a 7-2 run of its own that lasted until 3:09 mark of the period. Kagey scored four of the seven points to control the run with easy layups. Zariia America knocked down a three ball to bring the score to 45-25 with 2:24 left in the third period. The Lemon and Black outscored the Cougars 8-5 to end the final two minutes of the third period, taking a 53-30 lead into the final ten minutes.
- In the fourth period, Miller was able to knock down her third three-pointer of the game to begin the final ten minutes. Anderson would make a mid-range jumper to up the lead to 63-34 with 3:49 left in the game. The final four points would end up going to Anderson and seal a 67-34 win for the Yellow Jackets.
Inside the Numbers:
- Randolph-Macon shot 39.4 percent from the floor, as Averett knocked down 26.4 percent of its shots.
- The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Cougars 53-to-29 in the entire game.
- McKenzie Matheny (Fairfax Station, Va./West Springfield) led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 12 points. The junior also pulled down eight rebounds, had three steals and one blocked shot.
- Kagey notched 11 points and nine rebounds in the game. The senior also had two assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
- Miller also ended the game with eleven points for Randolph-Macon. The junior pulled down seven rebounds and dished out two assists,
- Anderson recorded a career high in points with eight in the game. The sophomore also grabbed four rebounds and blocked a shot.
- Wilcox had a great perfomance off the bench for Randolph-Macon, scoring five points, grabbing six rebounds and had two steals.
For the Record:
- Randolph-Macon has started the season with a 9-0 record in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The record is the best start in the Lindsey Burke-Eberhart era, besting the 8-1 start of the 2021-22 season.
