How it Happened
- In the first half both teams struggled to get going offensively. Washington College did put up more shots than the Yellow Jackets, but each goalkeeper only had to make one save each in the first 40 minutes. Throughout the first half the defensive pressure of Randolph-Macon was on full display, making all the runs for the Shorewomen difficult. Kelly Rogers (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle), Abigail Pesut (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) and Grace Turney (Dayton, Md./River Hill) made their presence felt to start the game.
- The game started to speed up in the final five minutes of the first half. Spangler had a look to give the Lemon and Black the lead in the 42nd minute, as Olivia Allen made a smooth sliding save to deny a go-ahead goal. Washington College tried to pressure defensive substitutes for Randolph-Macon in the closing minutes of the first half. Hollis Keenan (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial), Madison Blanchard (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) and Thalia Outhuok (Falls Church, Va./Justice) followed their teammates' lead to keep the Shorewomen off the scoreboard.
- Washington College got on the board in the 61st minute with a goal by Maddy Gaydon that was assisted by Reagan Longridge to give the Shorewomen a 1-0 lead.
- Lora Bertram (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) had a chance just a minute later to tie up the game and Allen made yet another impressive save to keep the lead for Washington College.
- Randolph-Macon finally broke through in the 71st minute, as Bertram led Spangler down the field with a pass. Spangler was denied at the end of the first half by Allen, but she would tie up the game with less than 20 minutes left in the match.
- The Shorewomen had one last chance to win the back in the final minute but the shot by Kayla Streett was off target. Randolph-Macon fought back to tie up the game late with the goal by Spangler to secure a 1-1 tie.
