How it Happened
- Despite both sides having a multitude of chances in the first quarter, both netminders combined to make eight saves over the first 15 minutes of play. The Yellow Jackets and the Big Red combined for six penalty corners, but the game remained scoreless as they headed to the second quarter.
- RMC was the first to cash in on a penalty corner, as a shot by Breea Dresler (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) was deflected into the back of the cage by Llana Thach to get the Jackets on the board. Denison answered back, peppering RMC goalie Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) with three shots, with the third lighting up the scoreboard to tie it, 1-1, heading to halftime.
- RMC dominated possession to begin the third quarter, as after two penalty corners and three shots on goal, Isabella McNulty (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) scored to break the tie. Just 40 seconds later, Thach buried another goal to extend the lead to 3-1. RMC kept the pressure on throughout the remainder of the quarter, putting two more shots on goal, both saved, and was awarded a penalty corner.
- The Yellow Jackets were able to push their lead even further, cashing in on another penalty corner. This time, it was Anna Scheir (Fallston, Md./Fallston) who found the back of the cage to extend the lead to 4-1. Ambrogi-Torres made five more saves the rest of the way, but Denison was able to push across a goal. It was too little, too late, as RMC cruised to a 4-2 win.
