Three Jackets Score in Friday Night Win over Meredith

ASHLAND, Va. – Steady offense propelled Randolph-Macon field hockey past Meredith, 3-1, on Friday evening.
Score: Randolph-Macon 3, Meredith 1
Venue: Nunnally Field
Records: Randolph-Macon (3-2, 0-0 ODAC), Meredith (1-2, 0-0 USA South)
How it Happened
  • The Yellow Jackets peppered the Angels goalie right away in the first quarter, but the netminder stopped all five shots in the first three minutes. RMC put three more shots on goal before the end of the frame but once again were stopped on all three. RMC goalkeeper Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) stopped the only shot she faced in the first 15 minutes.
  • Alaina McCoy (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) got the scoring started just two minutes into the second quarter burying a second chance opportunity off a penalty corner to make the score 1-0. Two minutes later, the freshman duo of Natalie Moul (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) and Janne Roelink (Den Helder, Netherlands/Norfolk Collegiate School) linked up for RMC's second goal off a penalty corner. RMC took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • It took just 52 seconds for RMC to extend their lead in the second half as Olivia Greene (Amissville, Va./Culpeper County) pushed the lead to 3-0. Meredith would get one back, however, scoring off a penalty corner after Ambrogi-Torres had already stopped two shots on the chance. The Yellow Jackets still held a 3-1 lead with one quarter to play.
  • RMC put up 13 shots in the final frame, five were saved by Meredith's goalie. While the Yellow Jackets had an offense-heavy finish, no further goals were put on the board.
Inside the Numbers
  • The Yellow Jackets outshot the Angels 40-11 overall and 22-8 on goal.
  • Natalie Moul scored in her second straight game, giving her five points this week.
  • Alaina McCoy found the back of the cage for the first time this season. McCoy had six goals a season ago to lead the team.
  • Breea Dresler (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) led the Yellow Jackets with six shots, four of which landed on cage.
  • Janne Roelink dished out her second assist on the season, which is the team high.
  • Olivia Greene notched her first career goal on her finish early in the second half, becoming the second newcomer to score a goal for RMC this season.
  • Valentina Ambrogi-Torres made another seven saves in the game, continuing her impressive start to the season.
Up Next
  • RMC will round out their week with a Sunday morning contest at 11:00 a.m. against Denison at Nunnally Field.
