How It Happened:
- The Yellow Jackets put together a two-out rally in the top of the first. Freshman Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) had a two-out single and went to second on a walk to senior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby). Junior Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School) also drew a base on balls to load the bases. Myers cleared the bases with a double to right center to give RMC a 3-0 advantage.
- The Warhawks plated three in the bottom of the first with only one earned and added six unearned runs in the second. UWW scored single runs in the third and sixth for an 11-3 lead.
- RMC put their first two runners on the seventh as senior Richie Dudley (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) drew a leadoff walk and freshman Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) singled up the middle. But a groundout and a pair of strikeouts ended the threat to make the final score 11-3.
By The Numbers
- Myers was 1 for 4 with three RBI. He recorded his sixth multiple-RBI game.
- Senior Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) went 2 for 4. He registered his 13th multi-hit game.
- Sophomore Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) was 1 for 4. He has reached base safely in 30 straight games.
- Webb walked and scored. He has reached base in 17 straight games.
- Senior Cole Stamm (Irvington, Va./Middlesex) threw a season-high 3.0 innings with three hits, one run, no walks and two strikeouts.
- Junior Gavin Tomlin (Capron, Va./Camp CC) pitched the final 3.2 innings with two hits, one run, no walks and four strikeouts.
For The Record
- The Yellow Jackets wore brand new white cleats with yellow trim against the Warhawks. The cleats were purchased by the 2018 RMC baseball team, the only other Yellow Jacket squad to reach the Division III World Series.
