How it Happened
- EMU launched out of the gates by going on a 6-0 run to take a 7-1 lead in the opening stanza. They never let RMC get their footing, pushing the lead out to nine at 15-6. RMC would bring the deficit back to three, but EMU followed that with a pair of 3-0 runs that would extend the lead back out. They went on to close out the set, winning 25-15.
- The Yellow Jackets were the ones who got off to a fast start in the second set, taking a 7-4 lead. After EMU cut it to one, RMC widened the margin with a 6-2 run, forcing a timeout by the Royals. Out of the timeout, the Royals made adjustments and went on an 8-2 run to take the lead at 16-15. After both teams traded points, EMU forced an RMC timeout after a 4-0 run gave them a 23-20 lead. RMC roared back after being down 24-22 to tie it at 24. EMU kept taking a one-point lead but was squandered by RMC each time until a long rally ended in a kill by the Royals to give them a 28-26 win in the second set.
- Similar to the second set, RMC jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the third. After holding a 12-7 advantage, EMU cut it to two with a 3-0 run before taking the lead at 15-14 with a 5-0 run later on. The Royals had a 19-18 lead before they ballooned it out to 24-19, forcing set point. RMC won three straight points to make it interesting but the Royals captured the final point to earn the sweep and advance to the semifinal.
