How it Happened
- The scoring on the afternoon got started early as the hosts netted a goal within the first minute of play. But RMC would respond in a big way as a Cami McNeally (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) goal would spark a 3-1 run in only three minutes. A goal later on in the period by the Hornets would bring the game level heading into the first break in play.
- Lynchburg would come out firing at the start of the second period as the hosts would score three unanswered goals. The game would be back and forth for the rest of the period, but goals by Evie McNeally (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and Lowery would help keep the Yellow Jackets in striking distance. Lynchburg would score a goal with 33 seconds left in the second period, putting RMC in a 8-6 hole going into the half.
- The hosts wouldn't let off the gas going into the second half as they scored in the first three minutes of play. Now with the Yellow Jackets looking at a three goal deficit, they knew they had their work cut out for them. RMC would respond with a goal by Annie Bartley (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) marking the start of another Yellow Jackets 3-1 run. Lowery would score the final goal in the third period, cutting the lead to one heading into the final frame of play.
- The final 15 minutes of play was kicked off by back-to-back RMC goals. Lowery and Maggie Muldoon (Prince Frederick, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) would net goals only 26 seconds apart to give the Yellow Jackets back the lead at 11-10. But not even a minute later, Lynchburg would begin a 4-1 run which gave the hosts a two goal lead with under two minutes remaining. A late goal from Lowery would give the Yellow Jackets some hope late on, but time would eventually run out as RMC would fall 14-13 in Lynchburg.
