ASHLAND, Va.Â
– Randolph-Macon Men's Basketball hit 14 threes and had four players score in double-figures as they cruised to a 97-54 win over Ursinus in the Suyes Yellow Jackets Classic championship on Sunday.
Score:Â Randolph-Macon 97, Ursinus 54
Venue:Â Â Crenshaw Gym
Records:Â Randolph-Macon (8-3), Ursinus (6-5)
How it Happened:
- Ursinus hit a three pointer to open the game and jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the first two minutes. The Bears extended their lead to 12-7 just three minutes later. RMC would allow Ursinus to score just four more points over the next 12 minutes as RMC exploded for a 33-4 run to take a commanding 40-16 lead with two and half minutes to go until the break. UC would break up the run with a layup, but RMC would take a 49-19 lead into half after a Charlie Thornton (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) layup extended the advantage to 30 points.
- Similar to the first half, the Bears shot the ball well out of the break. RMC kept pace, however, as they never let the lead diminish. Back-to-back threes by Keishawn Pulley Jr. (Richmond, Va./Saint Christopher's School) and Thornton kickstarted a run that was capped off by three straight buckets by Oliver Jones (Middletown, Del./South Kent Prep), making the lead surpass 40 points. Joe Bachman (Wilmington, N.C./Greensboro Day) made a pair of free throws with 8:18 remaining to make the score 79-35. The two teams traded buckets the rest of the way as RMC cruised to a 97-54 win.
