How it Happened
- Randolph-Macon opened up the game with a rushing attack into the Royals defensive zone. Lora Bertram (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) flicked a pass off her head to a streaking Ally Spangler (Daleville, Va./Lord Botetourt) down the middle of the field. Spangler would split both of her defenders and beat Aja Laun to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead in the third minute.
- In the seventh minute, Grace Turney (Dayton, Md./River Hill) found the ball at her feet just outside of the box. The senior had plenty of room and took advantage, vaulting her shot over Laun into the left corner pocket of the goal, giving the Lemon and Black a 2-0 lead.
- The Yellow Jackets would triple their lead on their third shot on goal in the 12th minute. Riley Russ (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) took a pass from Lauren Brokaw (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) from outside of the box and would again vault a shot over Laun to give Randolph-Macon a commanding 3-0 lead.
- Randolph-Macon kept the pressure on and owned possession for the final 33 minutes of the first half, but the Royals defense and goalkeeping would keep the score at 3-0 at halftime.
- In the final 45 minutes of the game, neither team had great chances to put goals on the scoreboard. The three early goals by the Yellow Jackets would hold for a 3-0 win.
