Women's Soccer Blanks Ferrum 2-0 on Senior Night


ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon women's soccer team notches their fifth shutout of the season in a dominant senior day victory over Ferrum by a score of 2-0. 

The Basics

How it Happened
  • Randolph-Macon got the party started in the first ten minutes of the game to take a 1-0 lead. Alexa Stohr (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) made a run at goal and found Lauren Brokaw (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) in the box wide open, Brokaw buried it past the goalkeeper for her eighth goal of the season.  
  • The Yellow Jackets would not let off the gas offensively, as Lora Bertram (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) doubled the lead on an unassisted goal in the 25th minute.   
  • In the final seven minutes of the first half, the Lemon and Black had three more opportunities to widen the margin before halftime. Ashli Wuss made clutch saves for Ferrum to keep the score at 2-0 at halftime.  
  • Neither team would find the back of the net in the second half, but Randolph-Macon owned possession throughout the 90 minute match. The defensive back line of Sammie Hoefs (New Market, Md./Linganore), Kelly Rogers (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle), Grace Turney (Dayton, Md./River Hill), Maddie Stubblefield (Mechanicsville, Va./Mechanicsville) and Gracie Knisely (Disputanta, Va./Prince George) locked down the Panthers offense to help secure a 2-0 win on senior day.  
Inside the Numbers
  • Randolph-Macon had 26 shots in the game, compared to the five that Ferrum tallied. The Yellow Jackets held a 12-to-1 advantage with shots on frame. 
  • Randolph-Macon held the advantage 7-to-0 in corner opportunities in the 90 minute game.  
  • Brokaw and Bertram both scored for the Lemon and Black.
  • Stohr notched her third assist of the season in the game. 
  • Zoe Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) had a quiet day in goal for the Yellow Jackets, only needing to make one save in 90 minutes. 
For the Record
  • With the win the Yellow Jackets eclipsed their season (6) and conference (3) win total from last season.
  • Randolph-Macon is 4-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, its best start through five games since the 2019 season. 
  • Brokaw notched a career high in goals in a season with her eighth tonight.
