How it Happened
  • Lance Johnson (South Riding, Va./Freedom) got the scoring started off a dish under the basket by Keishawn Pulley Jr. (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's School). RMC opened a 12-0 lead until Roanoke scored their first bucket with just over 14 minutes to go in the first. After a drawn out 4-0 run over the span of nearly three minutes, Jabril Robinson (Rockville, Md./South Kent Prep) hit back-to-back threes to push the lead to 18-4. RMC continued to roll into the second media timeout of the half, holding a 31-12 lead with 5:30 to play in the opening frame. Malcolm Hodges (Richmond, Va./Monacan) beat the buzzer with a jumper to make the score 45-21 at the half. RMC shot 59% from the field and 50% (7-14) from three on their way to their fifth 40+ point first half in their last six games. Daniel Mbangue (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) was +29 while on the floor in the first half.
  • Jabril Robinson opened the second half with a triple on the first possession. Similar to the first half, RMC started the second on a 12-0 run before Roanoke finally scored to make the Yellow Jackets' lead 57-23. RMC had already hit seven more threes in the first 10 minutes of the second half as they doubled up the Maroons, 70-35. Over the next six minutes, the Maroons outscored RMC 16-7 but RMC quickly re-built the lead, cruising to an 85-57 win.
